About the district

The District of Daireaux (15,857 inhabitants in 2001, 10,932 in the town of Daireaux; 3,820 sq. km) is located in the west center of the Buenos Aires Province, 400 km from Buenos Aires City.

Daireaux emerged near the Daireaux railway station, inaugurated on 6 November 1899 on a plot offered by the Franco-Argentine lawyer, writer and journalist Emilio Daireaux. In 1902, the Italian immigrant Pablo Guglieri (1865-1953) purchased 610 h from Emilio Daireaux, and, subsequently, several other plots form different owners on which he founded a new settlement.

The municipality of Caseros, with the town of Daireaux as its capital, was established by Provincial Law No. 3,244 of 5 July 1910. Caseros was subsequently renamed Daireaux.

Description of the flag

The flag of Daireaux is horizontally divided blue-green. with a big yellow, 13-rayed rising sun in the blue stripe. All over is placed a circular emblem horizontally divided celestial blue-white-celestial blue.

The flag was inaugurated on 1 July 2010, together with the Centenary Post.

The flag, designed by Mariano Rodríguez, Juan Cruz Balbona, José Ignacio Balbona and Diego Tomás Santiago, had been selected 14 years ago in a public contest organized by the Municipal Council, as requested by Constanza Suárez de los Santos.

The green stripe represents the productive soil and the Pampas plain. The central emblem features a dragon, taken from the municipal coat of arms and representing the town of Daireaux as the capital of the municipality, and St. Joseph, as the patron saint of the community. The celestial blue-white background of the emblem recalls the national flag. The celestial blue upper field represents the sky upon Daireaux, while the white field represents union, purity and peace. The celestial blue lower field represents water.

The rising sun represents production, while its 13 rays represents the settlements forming the municipality. The horizontal central line, together with the sun, represents the rising of the nation. Ivan Sache, 22 Jan 2014
