Fray Mamerto Esquiú is a department of Catamarca Province in Argentina. This provincial subdivision has a population of about 11,000 inhabitants in an area of 280 sq km, and its capital city is San José. The department is named after the patriot and servant of God, friar Mamerto Esquiú (1826-1883)

Tomorrow, July 9 (2008), the department Fray Mamerto Esquiú addition to revive a new declaration of National Independence, a historic event live, as will the delivery of the departmental flag to all educational establishments, institutions and other organizations located in the department He's in the Constitution.

The meaning of the flag is the following:

The flag design was done by Manuel Angel Acevedo and selected through a competition between June 11 and July 13, 2007.

The establishment was approved by the Deliberating Council in Fray Mamerto Esquiú.
