The Oxley Sailing Club (OSC) is based on the Indooroopilly Beach of the Brisbane River. Founded on 18 July 1902 as the "Oxley Electorate Sailing Club" (OESC), succeeding itself the informal "Oxley Creek Sailing Club", the OSC is the oldest club still sailing on the Brisbane River. Extincted at the end of the First World War, the club was refounded on 14 July 1921 and renamed "Oxley Sailing Club". The town of Oxley is named after the British explorer John Oxley (1783/5-1828), who discovered the Brisbane River in 1824.
