The Belgian Alliance was founded in 2008 in Bruges as a national, multilingual party.
According to the Statutes (French version, Dutch version) adopted on 6 March 2008 - and last amended
on 26 February 2009 -. the party is called "Alliance Belge" in
French, "Belgische Alliantie" in Dutch, and "Belgischer Allianz" in
German. The subtitle, "Parti des Belges" (French), "Partij der
Belgen" (Dutch), and "Partie der Belgien" (German), is optional. The
party has three official languages, French, Dutch and German, which
can be used together.
The main objective of the party is "to unite the Belgians who defend
and apply a policy based on tolerance, pluralism, solidarity and
democratic principles". The party "rejects any kind of separatism or
blind nationalism, be it Flemish, Walloon or German-speaking".
The program of the party was defined in the Declaration of Principles adopted on 14 September 2008 during the party's congress held in Bruges (French version, Dutch version). The party advocates for a single, national constituency for the general elections and for a re-federalization of the "strategic competencies of national interest" (but without calling for the suppression of the Regions). In contrast, the party supports an increased provincial decentralization and an increased municipal autonomy. The party insists on the significance of the monarchy.
The Belgian Alliance presents itself as a "political forum" that may compete in elections at any level when necessary. The party indeed competed in the elections for the Flanders Parliament held on 7 June 2009, winning 0.23% of the votes and no seat.

The Belgian Alliance has deigned a "new Belgian flag" (photo, photo), adding an emblem in the middle of the Belgian tricolor.
The emblem is derived from the lesser version of the State coat of arms of Belgium. The scepters are omitted and the scroll is duplicated with the State motto in French and Dutch.
