The municipality of Tielt-Winge (10,103 inhabitants on 1 January 2007; 4,416 ha) is located in the region of Hageland, between Leuven and Diest. The municipality of Tielt-Winge was formed in 1976 by the merging of the former municipalities of Tielt, Sint-Joris-Winge, Houwaart and Meensel-Kiezegem.
Houwaart is the place of the northernmost vineyard in Europa, producing the famous Hageland wine. Meensel-Kizegem is famous for its orchards, mostly producing apples and pears.

The municipal flag of Tielt-Winge is vertically divided white-green-red.
According to Gemeentewapens in België - Vlaanderen en Brussel, the flag was adopted by the Municipal Council on 20 March 1980, confirmed by Royal Decree on 10 December 1980 and published in the Belgian official gazette on 3 February 1981 and, again, on 4 January 1995.
The colours of the flag are taken from the municipal arms.
The municipal arms of Tielt-Winge, as shown on the municipal website
are "Argent a St. George gules slaying a dragon vert". The saint and
the dragon are represented as silhouettes in plain colours, without any
inner details.
Servais shows the arms of Sint-Joris-Winge, granted by Royal Decree on
30 March 1839, as representing the same scene but with much more
colours and details. St. George (in Dutch, St. Joris) is, of course,
the patron saint of Winge. The saint appears on municipal seals from
the XVIth century, but there is no evidence that the arms have been
granted by Emperor Charles V, whatever the local tradition says.
