The new logo was presented on 4 May 2016 by Mayor Richard Hébert.
"The
geographic display is modern, the "bleuet", the lake and the forests are quickly
identified. The motto is really distinctive, highlighting the geographical
location ["Nord", "North"], the Vauvert-sur-le-lac-Saint-Jean sand beach ["Lac",
"Lake"], and the legendary welcome by local people ["Chaleur", "Heat"].
The "bleuet" is the Canadian blueberry, commonly growing in the wild around Lac
Saint-Jean, and commercially harvested in "bleuetières". Out of the 400 members
of the Syndicat des producteurs de bleuets du Québec, 264 were registered in
2017 around Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. Harvest takes place from mid August to mid
September. Dolbeau-Mistassini is self-styled the "world's capital of wild bleuet".
Commercial harvesting of the "blue gold" started in the late 19th century;
fruits were shipped by train from the station of Roberval.
The Bleuets
Festival has been celebrated every year since 1960 in Mistassini. The local
Trappists produce tasty candies composed of blueberries coated in chocolate.
Wild blueberries are also harvested in Abitibi and Côte-Nord (Quebec), Nova
Scotia and British Columbia.
