Azure on a Mount Vert a House Azure roofed Gules with a square Tower masoned Sable.
Željko Heimer, 11 February 2001
The house on the flag of Habsburg is the Habsburg castle (Burg meaning castle in
German), so you might guess where the canting name comes from.
Pascal Gross, 10 February 2001
In German, the blazoning of the arms is: "In Blau auf grünem Hügel die Habsburg weiss mit rotem
Dach" which would give "Azure, on a Mount Vert the Habsburg Silver roofed Gules".
Pascal Gross, 11 February 2001
If my Territorium-Ploetz is correct (and I would be surprised if it isn't), the Counts of Habsburg from which the famed family is descended came from the Aargau. They had as arms a gold (Or) field, with a red
(Gules) lion rampant armed and crowned black (Sable). The Habsburg lion appeared on the great arms of Austria until
WW2, and still is on the arms of the House of Austria (the family who would be the rulers of Austria,
barring the changes of 1918, etc.). Why the commune does not use the historic arms, I do not know.
Some territories of Germany and Austria (and other places) use the arms of their former rulers.
