Per fess Argent a Wall Anchor Cross Sable and Azure.
Željko Heimer, 10 March 2001
The cross on the flag of Dietwil is called in the German blazoning Mauerankerkreuz.
The closest representation in Francois Velde's atlas is the cross fourchy (or
moline).
Pascal Gross, 5 March 2001
Rather than a cross, this is a tie or – more technically – a wall tie with a
fishtail end (in this case a four-fishtail end). Its function is to hold
structural elements in place or to reinforce them, particularly brick- or
stonework. The literal translation of the German term is "wall tie
cross", but I believe the appropriate heraldical term is "cross moline"
indeed. A wall tie is most probably what the cross moline originally intended to
represent.
