The flag of Chiasso features a carriage-entrance (in Italian portone) alluding to the geographical position of the town on the antique road "regina" coming from Como and giving access to several places starting from Chiasso.

[There is also another influence to the design. The communal website states: "The design was obtained by reworking the coat of arms of the ancient Como Albrici family, owners of many real estate funds, indicated in documents dating back to 1375."]
