Overview

Ariguaní is a municipality located in the Department of Magdalena. The municipality seat is the town of El Difícil.. It was founded on 15 December 1901.
Dov Gutterman and Felipe Carillo, 4 August 2008

Translated from municipal web site:
"Green means the aspiration of all, white the peace emanating from Ariguaní and red the blood shed by the natives to become free."
Ivan Sache, 11 August 2008

The municipal website describes now a completely different flag, with a much more detailed description - either the flag was changed or the previous version was erroneous.
The municipality of Ariguaní (31,047 inhabitants in 2005) is located in central Magdalena Department. The capital and single town of the municipality is El Difícil (18,313 inh.). The municipality of Ariguaní (in native language, Clearstream) was established by Decree No. 14bis of 30 November 1966, seceding from Plato, and inaugurated on 14 March 1967. El Difícil was established on 14 September 1901, during the Thousand Day's War, the civil armed conflict that opposed in 1899-1902 the Conservative and the Liberal parties. Expelled from the mountains by the Liberals, several Conservatives founded a new village in a place of difficult, protected access; the odd name of the place is said to have been coined by Toribio Garizao de Oro,
The flag of Ariguaní, designed by Juan Mugno Molina and Yasser Lajud Tobías, is prescribed by Municipal Decree No. 3 of 22 May 2003. The flag is horizontally divided white-green-red (2:1:1). A yellow isosceles triangle is placed along the hoist. six white stars are placed long the two sides of he triangle opposed to the hoist. White represents peace. Green represents hope in agriculture and cattle-breeding as a regional source of income. Red recalls the origin of the people of Ariguaní and the historical event of the Thousand Day's War.
The yellow triangle symbolizes the resources of Ariguaní, its warm climate and the purity of the people. The six stars represent the six settlements forming the municipality (Ariguaní, Alejandría, El Carmen de Ariguaní, Pueblo Nuevo, San José de Ariguaní and Vadeloca).
