Presentation of the League for Šumadija

The League for Šumadija (Liga za Šumadiju) was founded as the Šumadija Coalition (Koalicija Šumadija) in 1997, in the town of Kragujevac, Serbia. The party took its present name in 2000, keeping the same goals: turning the region of Šumadija (in the central Serbia, to the south of Belgrade) into an autonomous province, with Kragujevac as its capital and status similar or identical to that of Vojvodina, as well as support to forming of autonomous provinces in all other parts of Serbia which currently do not have that status. To mark this continuity of politics, old party symbols were included into the new ones.

The new party flag, adopted after the name change, is based on that of the European Union, the stars being a bit smaller and arranged in the circle with a larger diameter, around a big yellow disc in the centre, charged with the old party logo in brown and red (text in its centre and oak leaves in its top), to which is added new party name - Liga za Šumadiju - inscribed beneath the old one in brown colour. The disc with its charges and stars around it also appear on dark blue field as the free-standing logo of the party.

The party flag has the field in gold colour, with the party name in Serbian - Koalicija Šumadija - in the bottom and oak leaves in the top, all in brown colour. The name is inscribed in two lines, but as the both words end with letters JA, these letters in both words are replaced with a single pair of letters, as high as both text lines together, which conjoin the words into a single charge. There is also a small red disc above the conjoining letter J, placed where its dot would be if it had the lowercase form (all the letters, including that one, have the uppercase forms, only their sizes are different). Brown is the typical autumn colour of the oak leaves; these remind of the yulelog (Serbian, badnjak), the small bundle of oak leaves which is carried into the home on the Christmas Eve, a Serbian custom probably best preserved in Šumadija (and much revived in the whole Serbia during last two decades). All the charges make the logo of the Šumadija Coalition, which is clearly based on that of the Vojvodina Coalition, its close ally at the time of its founding, the differences being in the colours (brown instead of black), the script in use (Cyrillic instead of Latin), the conjoining of the words described above and the addition of the oak leaves (these were sometimes omitted when the logo was appearing in free-standing form).
