Červené Pečky municipality
Červené Pečky - This little town ("městys" in Czech) in Central Bohemia,
near Kolín city, has about 1 620 inhabitants. Formerly it was called Hraboňovy
Pečky (after knight Hraboň, owner of town), to distinguish it from nearby
industrial town Pečky (with tool factory Stanley). Nowadays name (Červené
= Red) is taken from walls of local famous brewery, which was painted by
bulls blood in XIX. century. It is remained by red colour of coat of arms
and flag, which bears black deer head, symbol of aristocratic family Hrubý
z Jelení, who sit on Červené Pečky from 1784. It is not very mighty or
rich house, but famous for its cultural meaning: Řehoř Hrubý z Jelení (Gelenius)
and his son Zikmund were Renaissance writers and printers (Řehoř translated
works of Erasmus de Rotterdam to Czech). Bohdan Hrubý z Jelení who lived
at the end of XIX Century, was significant producer of orchideas. In our
times, town is notable for its castle ond its good table-tennis players.
