Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per pale, the dexter half is divided per fess. Above right in a black field is a golden (=yellow), rampant lion, armed and tongued red. Below in a silver (= white) field is a red, double queued, rampant lion, crowned golden. Left is a red tower in a golden (= yellow) field.
Meaning:
According to source the tower reminds at a medieval imperial castle. The lions are taken from the arms of Brabant(above) and Limburg(below). Both appeared already in a lay judges' seal from 1306. Kerpen belonged to Brabant since the end of the 13th century, together with Lommersum, which had been a possession of Limburg before.

The coat of arms was approved by Oberpräsident of Prussian Rhineprovince in 1938.
