Forst Coat of Arms

Shield Gules, an inescutcheon Or in bend, charged with a sinister pointing antler Gules with five ends, on top of shield a helmet and scarves, crested with a count's coronet and antler, all Or.
Until 2011 it was shield Or an antler Gules with four ends and a trefoily base.
Meaning:
The arms are based on the family arms of the Counts of Biberstein, who ruled the city as vassals of the Margraves of Lower Lusatia from the 14th until the 17th century. The antler can be found already on the oldest known city seal from 1642.

The historical full arms, i.e. the current arms with different tinctures in crest in scarves, were approved on 4 September 1992, today only used for ceremonial purposes. The version with shield only is in public use since 3 December 2005. The colours of the flag were introduced in 1935, based on "Deutsche Gemeindeordnung", and confirmed as plain bicolour on 4 September 1992. The current symbols were approved on 13 April 2011.
