Rheinhausen Municipal Coat of Arms

The shield is divided per pale into red and blue. The dexter side is divided by a silver (= white) fess. The sinister side displays a silver (= white) sinister facing fish, topped by a golden (= yellow) plough share.
Meaning:
On 1 May 1972 the municipalities of Oberhausen and Niederhausen merged. The new municipality was called Rheinhausen. The arms are more or less those of the former municipality of Oberhausen. The dexter side reminds on the fact that both villages had been part of the Landgraviate Breisgau, a dominion of the Dukes of Austria. The plough share had been a local symbol of both municipalities before and could be found in local seals since the 18th century. The fish is symbolizing the Rhine River and sports- and professional fishery in the municipality.

Banner and coat of arms were approved on 12 February 1973 by Minister of Interior of Baden-Württemberg, published in GABl 1084/1973.
