Meaning:
The oldest seal of the city, at that time still named Walberg, from 1289 and shows three towers on a trefoiled arch, the single arches charged with two stars and a rose in the central arch. The second seal is known from the early 14th century, which shows again three towers, but now in the base a lion and a rose branch. The latter two were later placed in a shield, and the above arms appeared for the first time in 1689. The lion holds a small light, i.e. the lantern, (German: Licht) as a canting element. The meanings of the lion and the roses are not known.
