Bötzingen Coat of Arms

[Bötzingen municipal CoA] image by Valentin Poposki, 26 Oct 2019

Shield parted per pale, at dexter Or a bend Gules, at sinister Azure a bear rampant Argent.
Meaning:
The municipality consisted of Bötzingen proper and Oberschaffhausen. Until 1805 they had been a condominium of Austria and the Margraves of Baden. Both villages merged in 1838. Since 1589 the existence of a court seal is proven for the Badenian portion, already displaying the Badenian bend and a bear in shield parted per pale. The bear is considered to be canting for the former name "Betz". Sometimes the seals displayed two different shields ordered per fess. Since the 19th century the use of the seal of the Badenian portion was continued by the united municipality. The tinctures were fixed in 1907 by the General State Archive.
