[Auma plain flag (- 2011)] 3:5 image by Klaus-Michael Schneider and Tomislav Todorović, 4 Oct 2016

Probably the city continued the use of the flags of Auma city. The flag of Auma is a black over yellow horizontal bicolour with centred arms (see image on top) or without arms.

Meaning:
Since 1248 a local castle was the ancestral seat of the Lords of Auma. A settlement of merchants was walled in 1360 and denoted as a city in 1378. It was a possession of the Wettin kin since the early 14th century. 1485/1567 the city belonged to the Ernestine branch, after 1567 to the Albertine branch and since 1815 to the Grand Duchy of Sachsen-Weimar. The arms are known since the 1st half of the 15th century. The firs replaced the beeches on the first arms. Since the 17th century there was often just one fir with the squirrel on top.

According to Ralf Hartemink the municipality kept the arms of the former Auma City, which had been incorporated in 2011. Probably also the use of the flag was continued.
