Description of current flag (since 1997):
The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a yellow - blue vertical bicolour. The coat of arms (version 1997) is in the centre of the flag.

Description of former flag:
The ratio is 3:5.The flag was quarterly divided into blue and yellow. The coat of arms (version 1858) was in the centre of the flag.

Coats of arms

Description of coats of arms:
The shield is divided per pale. The dexter side shows in a golden (= yellow) field a half, black bull's head armed silver (= white) and crowned golden (= yellow). The sinister side shows in a blue field a half silver (= white) fleur de lis with a clover stem of the same colour coming out of the flower. In the new version both sides were exchanged.
Meaning:
The bull's head is taken from the arms of Mecklenburg or they are alluding to the lordship of Werle-Güstrow.

The coat of arms was granted on 10 April 1858 by Grand-Duke Friedrich Franz II. The arms were redesigned in 1997 by Heinz Kippnick and approved, probably together with the new flag, on 22 May 1997 by minister of interior of Mecklenburg-Westpomerania and registered as no.118 of the Roll of Arms of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Flag and coat of arms were approved by minister of interior of Mecklenburg-Westpomerania on 22 May 1997, published in the roll of arms of Mecklenburg-Westpomerania as no. 0118.
