County Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a blue shield is a rampant lion. The lion is divided per pale. In front (dexter half) he is striped of silver (= white) and red, armed golden (= yellow) and accompanied by four silver (= white) vairs. Behind (sinister half) he is golden (= yellow), armed red and accompanied by four golden (= yellow) trefoils.
Meaning:
On 1 August 1972 Obertaunus County and Usingen County were united. The dexter half is representing the former Obertaunus County. The Hessian lion is representing the Landgraviate of Hessen-Homburg. The vairs are alluding to the Lords of Kronberg. The sinister half is representing the former Usingen County. The lion here is alluding to the Duchy of Nassau. The trefoils are taken from the arms of the city of Usingen.
