Shield quartered of Argent and Gules, over all a hare salient Or.
Meaning:
Haßfurt is the seat of Haßberge County. It was first mentioned as a city in 1243. The greater seal from the early 14th century and the lesser seal from 1396 displayed a round wall interrupted by an open gate with portcullis and flanked by two towers, in chief the quartered flag of the Bishopric of Würzburg, the local ruler. Since the 16th century on seals the flag was replaced by the punning hare (German: Hase), alluding to a ford of a hare, on the quartered shield of the bishopric beneath the gate. The current pattern appeared first on a coloured painting from 1544. The pattern was confirmed in 1818 but on a shield quartered of white and green. After 1846 additional city walls were approved on the city seals, which were omitted later.
