Shield parted per pale, at dexter Argent, an engraver´s hammer Sable, at sinister Sable a wooden shovel Or, both superimposing an abased fess wavy parted per pale of Gules and Argent.
Meaning:
The fess wavy is a representation of the namesake river. The hammer is alluding to the many local quarries and the depletion of green and white sandstone. The tips of the hammer are representing the 10 former municipalities, which merged in 1978. The shovel is referring to the production of wooden shovels and the riches of beeches. Red and silver are the tinctures of the Bishopric of Würzburg, black and gold of the Cistercian Ebrach Monastery, both being former local rulers.
