Coat of Arms

[Hückelhoven banner] image located by Pete Loeser, 30 Aug 2011

Description of coat of arms:
The black shield is divided by a silver (=white) barrulet. Above a re four silver (=white) 6-point stars scattered over the field, below in the centre are silver (= white) hammer and mallet.
Meaning:
According to source the barrulet is alluding to the dynasts (probably some kind of heritable magistrates) of Hückelhoven. The stars are symbolizing the former municipalities of Hückelhoven, Ratheim, Hilfarth and Kleingladbach, from which the greater municipality was formed in 1935. Their form is alluding to the local kin of Olmissen, called "Mustroe". Hammer and mallet are symbolizing mining.

The coat of arms was approved by Oberpräsident of Prussian Rhineprovince in 1938 to the municipality and was kept, when Hückelhoven gained city rights in 1969. Banner and coat of arms were approved/confirmed by Regierungspräsident Köln on 25 October 1972.
