Klaus-Michael Schneider,
Shield Azure, a milrind Argent in pale, flanked by a chimney Argent masoned Sable at dexter and a goshawk Argent, statant on an oak branch Argent, at sinister.
Meaning:
The blue colour is symbolising the swamps around the banks of Leine River. The chimney was taken from the former arms of Garbsen municipality and is alluding to the local lime clins. The goshawk was taken from the arms of former Havelse municipality. Its name was derived from "Havekesla", which means "wood of goshawks". The bird was thus a canting element. The milrind is symbolising the merger of both municipalities in 1967. Garbsen gained the rank of a city in 1968.
Flag and arms were approved by district governor (Regierungspräsident) of Hannover in 1967.

The lion is reminding on the Counts of Roden, who had a few possessions around Wunstorf. Bricks and hammer are symbolising industries, especially the production of small ironware and the local brickyards.
