Shield Argent, seven lozenges Gules in fess, each one charged with a nailhead Or.
Meaning:
The nailheads might be denoted as little bezants as well. The arms are a modification of the family arms of the Counts of Alten, who owned many estates in the Principalities of Calenberg and Lüneburg. In the family arms the lozenges are ordered per bend. Hemmingen Municipality overtook the symbols of former Hemmingen-Westerfeld Municipality. Hemmingen was upgraded to a city on 1 March 1999.
The arms were approved for Hemmingen-Westerfeld on 2 August 1950 by Minister of Interior of Lower Saxony. They were confirmed for Hemmingen Municipality on 9 May 1974 by District Governor (Regierungspräsident) of Hannover and again on 1 March 1999 by Hannover County.
