Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess, above Gules, a lion issuant Or, beneath Vert a bar wavy Argent.
Meaning:
Lehrte was part of the so called "Das kleine Freie" (literally: the little free one), a "county" of the Counts of Roden, in fact a clearance district, where yeomen were allowed to settle down (for more details (in German only) see German WIKIPEDIA. The district existed at least since the 10th century. In 1512 the Welfen Duchy of Celle-Lüneburg acquired the district. The lion is a modification of the Welfen lion. The green field is representing the "Masch", a landscape conservation area alongside Leine River, represented by the bar wavy. Nowadays industries are more important and Laatzen is the municipality, where the Hannover fair and the CeBit take place. Laatzen gained city rights in 1968.
The arms were approved in 1931 by Prussian Minister of State.
