Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, an embattled tower Or masoned sable, in port a lion rampant Or and a portcullis Argent.
Meaning:
The arms were granted by Emperor Ludwig of Bayern, together with the privileges of a city. They wer confirmed in 1597 by the Counts of Nassau. Afterwards again approved in 1907 and confirmed in 1934 by the local district governor (Regierungspräsident). The composition is taken from the oldest seals of the city, dating from the 15th to 18th century. The tower is symbolizing the city character and status of Dillenburg. The lion is taken from the arms of Nassau. Between 1816 and 1907 the portcullis was abolished in the local seals. In flag the coat of arms has an orange bordure. The official blazon of the arms also says that the charges are orange, but they are realized as yellow (Or). Blue and orange had been the colours of Nassau.
