Shield Azure with base wavy of Argent and Azure; issuant from base a throughout bridge Argent, having three arches and a handrail; in dexter chief a waxing crescent Or with face; in sinister chief four 6-point stars Or, ordered 1:2:1.
Meaning:
The crescent is taken from the old seal of Leun. The bridge is symbolizing the importance of the city as a traverse crossing Lahn River, represented by the base wavy. The four stars are symbolizing the four former municipalities Leun, Biskirchen, Bissenberg and Stockhausen. The oldest seal of the city is known from 1760, but dates from the middle of the 17th century. The seal displayed a moon and a swimming duck. The moon is considered to be a canting element. "Leun" is derived from luna (=moon), the duck most likely is symbolizing the Leuner Becken lake. The seal was no longer used in the 19th century, but recovered and reused from 1934-38. In 1938 the arms displayed only only a golden duck passant in a blue shield. Those arms became obsolete after the merger in 1972. The colours are those of the Counts of Solms-Braunfels, to which the city belonged for several centuries.
The coat of arms was approved on 3 July 1978.
