Shield Gules, in chief a lark rising Or.
Meaning:
Lörrach had been a village of the Margraves of Baden-Durlach. It gained the privilege to hold an annual fair in 1403 by King Ruprecht. After the seat of the subcounty (Ober-Amt) of Rötteln -Sausenberg had been moved to Lörrach, it gained city rights in 1682. These rights and the coat of arms were confirmed in 1756 by Margrave Karl-Friedrich. The lark (German: Lerche) had been chosen erroneously as a canting symbol of the city by its citizens in 1682. The tinctures are those of Baden. The design of the lark had been changed often in the past. A view versions can be seen at Ralf Hartemink's webpage
