Meaning:
The village was first mentioned in the 8th century and belonged to the Lordship of Rötteln. It was acquired by the Margraves of Hachberg-Sausenberg and in 1503 by the Margraves of Baden. It became a municipality in the 19th century. The oldest local seal from 1811 only displays the arms of Baden. The General State Archive suggested the current arms. The demi-lion is taken from the family arms of the Lords of Rötteln. The tree is symbolising orcharding. These arms were adopted by the municipality in 1907.
