Description of coat of arms:
In a red field is a silver (=white) herdsman, killing a wolf of the same colour, by pushing his golden (=yellow) baton into the throat of the wolf. The herdman has also golden(=yellow) hair, bag and boots.
Meaning:
According to source the image is based upon a seal of the reformed parish church from 1630. The herdsman is symbolizing the (good) church struggling against the evil, here symbolized by the wolf. Furthermore the wolf is canting. The colours red and white are alluding to the dukes of Berg, the former rulers.

The coat of arms was granted to the city in 1827 and confirmed by Oberpräsident of the Prussian Rhineprovince in 1938.
