Shield Gules an eagle Sable with legs Or, armed and tongued Gules.
Meaning:
Neumarkt was first mentioned as a city in 1235. The city remained an imperial fiefdom around 1300. Thus the city seals with prints from 1278 and 1297 displayed the one headed imperial eagle. Secret seals since the 14th century basically displayed the same pattern. At the same time red wax was used for printing. Coloured paintings are known since 1486/1492, displayed in the Roll of Arms of Wernigerode. Most of them displayed the eagle either armed red or golden in a golden or silver shield, thus having the tinctures of the imperial eagle. During the 19th century the eagle had been silver in a red field and in a register from 1812 he had the current tinctures.
