Description of flag:
The ratio is 3:5. It is a white over green horizontal bicolour with proportions approx. 4:1. A green hill superimposed by a golden (= yellow) horseshoe is exceeding the green stripe in the middle. On top of the hill are three green trees. Above the trees are two red farmhouses.
Meaning:
The houses are alluding to the amalgamation of the villages of Bünningstedt and Hoisbüttel in 1978. The horseshoe is symbolizing the legend of the sleeping army of Schübeck. Once a blacksmith was looking for acommodation. An old man promised him to give acommodation against a service and led him to a cave, where an army and its horses camped. The blacksmith was shoeing the horses all night long and his wages just were the old horseshoes. As his rucksack full of horsesgoes was so heavy he threw away the horseshoes except one. At high noon this horseshoe turned to solid gold. The smith went back, but the army and the horseshoes had already disappeard.
