Meaning:
Glinde was first mentioned in 1229. The millwheel is symbolizing the importance of an industrial mill for a long time. Being a tannery in the beginning since the 17th century the mill was processing copper. The name of the city means "near the fence". Thus the lattice is canting. The trefoils are symbolizing cattle-breeding and dairy-farming. The wreath of stars on flag isn't mentioned. But it is obviously inspired by the flag European Community.
Klaus-Michael Schneider, 17 Feb 2013

The yellow/blue background symbolizes by the lozengy gate (= "Glind") the name of the city. The red millwheel points at the old mill as precursor of the heavy industry of the present; the cloverleaves remind of the agriculture practised in this young town in a green environment.

The flag was approved on 31 May 1979. The coat of arms was approved on 27 December 1965. The artist is Hans Frieder Kühne from Barsbüttel.
