Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess into Azure over Or, above two facetted 6-point stars Or set in fess.
Meaning:
Michelstadt was ruled by the Cupbearers (German: Schenk) of Erbach, later Counts of Erbach as vassals of the Palatine Counts upon Rhine since the 12th century and became a city already in the 14th century. A city seal from the 16th century displayed an embattled wall with port and portcullis crowned by a tower with two round windows. The current arms were granted in 1541 by Count Georg of Erbach together with another city seal. A similar seal is known from 1556. The damascene in the lower field appears first on the seal from 1612, which became the blueprint of later 18th century seals. Furthermore these arms appeared on two public wells at the end of the 16th century.
The arms have not changed since. The stars are derived from the arms of the Counts of Erbach, the lower half seems to be just a distinguishing mark. There is also a greater coat of arms flanked by blue and golden scarves and topped by a mural crown, nowadays coloured as red.

Steinbach (Odenwald) Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, an arch (Sable, which is not mentioned in blazon) with a bannister Gules, topped by two angels statant Gules blowing trumpets.
Meaning:
Steinbach was founded in the 9th century by Einhard, biographer of Karl the Great. The arch can be found in the residence palace of the Counts of Erbach-Fürstenau. It is an important building and the borough's landmark and was finished in 1588. The star is taken from the arms of the Lords of Erbach, being reeves of the local Benedictine provosts in the 12th century. The Erbach kin established its own power and became ruler until 1806.
The arms were approved in 1927 by Minister of Interior of Hesse.
