Description of flag:
The ratio is 3:5. It is a yellow flag limited by two blue horizontal stripes on the top- and bottom-edge. In the yellow stripe at the hoist is a green branch of a male alder.
Meaning:
The pattern of flag is based upon the municipal arms. The female branch of alder is omitted upon flag and the blue bend sinister wavy has changed into two narrow blue stripes. Thus the flag is somehow canting. The meaning of Ellerau is "creek at alder". Here the blue colour is representing the creek and the branch the alder (which is acc. to an online dictionary a single tree and a grove as well). Ellerau belonged to Kaden Manor District and became an independent municipality at the beginning of Prussian rule in 1867.
