Coat of arms

Description of coat of arms:
It is a B/W image of St.Christopher carrying upon his shoulder Jesus Christ as a little child nimbed. The whole ensemble is placed upon a golden (=yellow) shield divided by a red fess.
Meaning:
According to source the image is the same like that one appearing on 15th century seals. The shield is showing the arms of the archbishopric of Münster, the sovereign until 1802/1803. St. Christopher is the patron saint of the local parish church.

The coat of arms was adopted by the local council on 9 October 1924. The flag probably never had been approved officially. The entry in Hauptsatzung of the city of Werne is really imprecise, simply saying that the flag would show the colours red and golden.

Plain Flag reported 1972

Description of flag:
he ratio is 3:5. It is a yellow over red over yellow horizontal triband. It is an armorial flag insofar, as Stadler displays the coat of arms as a simply golden (=yellow) shield divided by a red fess.
