Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per chausee into blue and silve (= white). The upper blue field is superimposed by a golden (= yellow) capital "T".
Meaning:
According to source n 1970 the municipalities of St.Tönis and Vorst had been united forming the greater municipality (Großgemeinde) of Tönisvorst, which gained city rights on 26 April 1979. The "T" is representing St.Tönis, where St.Anthony should have dwelled as a hermit . The "T" is known as so called Antonius-cross. Furthermore it's the initial letter of Tönis. The v-shaped pile is representing Vorst and its initial letter.
