From Ralf Hartemink's
"The arms were granted on 13 December 1974. The arms show in the upper part the arms of the former State of Würzburg, the so-called Franconian rake (Fränkischer Rechen), which are very common in this part of Bavaria. The lower part shows the fleur-de-lis of the St. Burkhard monastery in Würzburg (...) the monks owned substantial parts of the county. (...) The lions derive from the arms of the former Ochsenfurt county. The colour of the fleur-de-lis has also been changed to its original colour."

The coat of arms was approved on 2 February 1966. The chief displayss the arms of the Bishopric of Würzburg, as the bishops held many estates in the county. The lower dexter half displays the arms of the Von Limpurg kin. These also had some estates in the county. The two leopards in the lower left half are the arms of the Counts of Hohenlohe, who held most of the estates prior to the Von Limpurg kin.
