Brief History of RC Tegel 1886

On 1 March 1886 RC Germania Tegel was established on 1 March 1886 by five engineers of the Germania Dockyard in Tegel. On 26 February 1909 RC Nordstern was established. On 1 March 1911 the RG Sparta was established by eight youngsters. In 1919 Germania and Sparta opened the rowing season together for the first time. During the following years all clubs were establishing a juniors' department: Nordstern (1916), Germania (1928) and Sparta (1930). A bit later womens' departments were established: Nordstern (1931), Germania (1932) and Sparta (1934). After WW2 all sport clubs had been forbidden by the allied occupation forces. Rowing was only allowed under the frame of a municipal sports department. Already before WW2 Germania and Nordstern had planned to merge. The new club was established on 24 May 1947 and was inscribed into the register of clubs in 1948. The name of the new club was RC Tegel 1886. In 1950 Sparta had a revival, renamed into RC Sparta. On 1 January 1974 Sparta joins the RC Tegel.
