The new flag was a modification of the former Saffonia flag. The black eagle from the Preußen flag was added in the upper fly. The point of intersection of the crossbars was moved a bit to lower fly. The shield in the centre was replaced by a blade with the same pattern and a black shaft. The inscription in the lower fly became black and was changed to "RVP Saffonia". The cross was partially cotised yellow.

It was a white flag with two black horizontal stripes. Between the stripes in the centre of the flag is a black eagle. The canton was a white rectangle, fimbriated black with black serifed dotted capitals "R.V.P.". The colours black and white and the black eagle as well had been symbols of Prussia.
