Colcrete - von Essen Gmbh & Co KG - The company is located in Rastede with branches in Ückermünde and Ahrensboek. The business is water engineering, dam building and protection of coastal area. The company was established in 1860 by Martin Friedrich von Essen. The company began to erect mud dikes and brushwood fences at river banks. In the 1960ies the colcrete mortar process was invented in order to improve armouring of banks. In the 1970ies matting and injection of concrete were developed. I guess Colcrete is the name of a special processing of concrete. This name was added to von Essen later, probably in the 1960ies. After having made longer tests at Braunschweig’s technical university geotextile mats were developed in the 1990ies.
