The parish of Chiquintad (4,073 inhabitants in 2001), part of Cuenca canton
(Azuay province), was established on 27 May 1878.
Ivan Sache, 10 January 2015
The flag of Chiquintad is horizontally divided blue-white green (seemingly in
proportions 2:1:1). Blue represents the sky, always limpid and a sign of clarity
and good omen, as well as water, profuse in the area and source of fresh life.
White represents the human and Christian virtues, especially faith, solidarity,
and welcome, expressed with much zeal by the yesterday and today's inhabitants
of Chiquintad. Green represents the evergreen landscape, as well as aspiration
to a better future for the families and the country. The white stripe is charged
with a women's sombrero hat, radiating like a sun, which represents feminine
beauty and handcraft.
