The parish of Ángel Pedro Giler, originally known as La Estancilla, was
renamed on 10 March 1945 to Ángel Pedro Giler; this was confirmed by Executive
Agreement No. 92, issued on 25 October 1996.
Ángel Pedro Giler (1875-1946) is
credited the material, social and cultural progress of the parish; in charge of
urban planning, he built the parish church, schools, a center of agricultural
training, and revamped the cemetery.

The flag of Ángel Pedro Giler, selected in a public contest, is composed of
three horizontal stripes.
The upper, olive green stripe, which is twice wider
than the other ones, represents the fields; it is charged with nine stars: the
red star represents the parish's capital while the eight, smaller blue stars
represent the communities of Vargas Torres, Las Corrales, Las Guaijas, La Poza,
La Madera, La Pastora, Tres Caminos and Figueroa.
The second, white stripe,
represents the force of the inhabitants in search of progress.
The last,
celestial blue stripe, symbolizes the water of river Carrizal that irrigates the
wide cropping area.
