The Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) was founded on 30 April 2011, as the
political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood. The FJP is
chaired by Mohamed Morsy, appointed by the Guidance Office of the Muslim
Brotherhood. In the parliamentary election held from 28 November 2011 to 11
January 2012, the FJP led a coalition of 11 parties called the Democratic
Alliance for Egypt. The coalition received 10,138,134 votes (37.5%), obtaining
235 out of the 508 seats (45%) and therefore forming the largest block in the
parliament, largely dominated by the FJP (213 seats).
The flag of the
FJP, as shown on a photo of the party headquarters published in "The Egyptian
Gazette", 9 March 2012, is white with the party's emblem. Below the emblem is
the party's name, on two lines, top, in Arabic (black), bottom, in English
(red). In this particular context, the flag has a white fringe, while the
neighboring Egyptian flag (with golden emblem) has a golden fringe.
