The municipality of Urrácal (329 inhabitants in 2013; 2,500 ha; municipal website) is located 90 km north of Almería.
Klaus-Michael Schneider, 4 November 2012The flag and arms of Urrácal, adopted on 18 December 1998 by the Municipal Council, are prescribed by Decree No. 10, adopted on 24 January 2000 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 22 February 2000 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 22 (text). This was confirmed by a Decree adopted on 30 November 2004 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 20 December 2004 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 246, pp. 28,986-29,002 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular flag, in proportions 2:1, blue with the local coat of arms in the center.
Coat of arms: Rectangular shield, rounded-off in base by a semi-circle. Azure a river wavy azure and argent superimposed on three mounts proper, the central higher and ensigned with a tower or masoned and port sable. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.
The Arab tower reflects the historical connection of the village with Purchena, Urrácal being part of the judicial district of Purchena. The mounts refer to the geographic location of the village in the Estancias mountains. The waves represent river Almanzora that waters the municipal territory.
