Presentation of Rezmondo

The municipality of Rezmondo (15 inhabitants in 2014; 670 ha) is located in the west of the Province of Burgos, on the border with the Province of Palencia , 60 km of Burgos.
Rezmondo is named for Abbot Recimundo, who founded an abbey and planted grapevine on a plot offered by the first Count of Castile, Fernán González. The village is located on the Way of St. James.

Symbols of Rezmondo

The flag and arms of Rezmondo, approved in 15 February 2012 by the Municipal Council, are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 29 March 2012 by the Municipal Council, signed on 16 April 2012 by the Mayor, and published on 8 May 2012 in the official gazette of the Province of Burgos, No. 86, p. 41 (text).
The symbols, designed by the Spanish Vexillological Society, are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular, in proportions 2:3, made of a wavy diagonal stripe running fro the hoist's lower angle to the fly's upper angle, blue with a white outline, the triangle at hoist green and the triangle at fly red. In the center is placed the municipal coat of arms, in height 50% of the flag's height.
Coat of arms: Tierced per bend sinister, 1. Gules (red) a castle or port and windows azure surrounded by two staffs or, 2. A bend wavy azure fimbriated argent, 3. Vert (green) a pair of scales or surmounted by a sword argent crossing the left arm of the scales. The shield surmounted with a Royal Spanish crown.

The symbols were inaugurated on 25 July 2012 (photos).
The colours of the flag are those of the coat of arms. Green and red were swapped on the flag for more contrast and to increase the visibility of the coat of arms in the center of the flag.
The 1st field of the coat of arms recalls the origin of the village: the staffs are the symbol of the monastery that established the village, while the red field and the castle represent Count Fernán González, who granted a series of privileges to the monastery in the 10th century.
The 2nd field symbolizes river Pisuerga, Rezmondo being located in its valley.
The 3rd field maintains temporal connection with the coat of arms used by the municipality in the 19th century, which features a pair of scales and a sword.
