The municipality of Valle de Sedano (487 inhabitants in 2012; 26,406 ha) is located in the north of Province of Burgos, 50 km from Burgos. The municipality is made of the villages of Sedano (180 inh.; capital), Cortiguera (10 inh.), Cubillo del Butrón, Escalada (39 inh.), Gredilla de Sedano (29 inh.), Moradillo de Sedano (17 inh.), Mozuelos de Sedano, Nidáguila (28 inh.), Nocedo (9 inh.), Orbaneja del Castillo (47 inh.), Pesquera de Ebro (14 inh.), Quintanaloma (27 inh.), Quintanilla Escalada (29 inh.), Terradillos de Sedano (38 inh.), Turzo (7 inh.) and Valdelateja.

The flag and arms of Valle de Sedano (Escudos y Banderas de la Provincia de Burgos website) are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 15 October 2004 by the Municipal Council and published on 27 October
2004 in the official gazette of the Province of Burgos.
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Quadrangular flag, white, charged with three gyrons, yellow, blue and green, of 2/10 in base and separated from each other and from the flag's edges by 1/10, of 7/10 in length except the central gyron (blue), which is of 5/10 in length. In the middle is placed the municipal coat of arms.
Coat of arms: Per pale, 1. Or a tree vert fructed or terraced vert a sheep passant, 2. Azure Romanesque columns, arch and capitals argent in base a staff and a sword of the same per saltire. Grafted in base, argent two fesses wavy azure the second charged with a trout argent. A bordure vert 17 stars or. The shield surmounted by a Royal Spanish crown.
The Romanesque architectural elements must represent the portico of
the St. Stephen church of Mordilla de Sedano (presentation), erected on the top of
the Castro hill. Achieved in 1188 in Gothic style and revamped in the
17th-18th centuries following a blaze, the church is one of the best
examples of the Burgos Romanesque style. It was proclaimed a National
Historical and Artistic Monument by a Decree published on 3 June 1931
in the Spanish official gazette.
The 17 stars must stand for the 16 villages forming the municipality
(plus a deserted village or an additional star symbolizing the whole
municipality?).

Terradillos de Sedano

Terradillos (presentation) was established in the late 9th century by colonists
coming from a place called Tarradillos, located in the Merindades or
the mountains above Santander. Led by Gómez, they established nearby the village of Valdegomez, disappeared long ago. The settlements were part of the alfoz (group of villages) of Mordillo del Castillo, also disappeared long ago. Terradillos was mentioned, as Terratiellos, in a document dated 25 March 1065, kept in the monastery of San Millán de la Cogolla.
At the end of the Middle Ages, Terradillos and the neighbouring
villages were incorporated into the Honor de Sedano, acquired in 1480
by Juan Manrique, Count of Castañeda, made two years later Marquis of Aguilar de Campoo by the Catholic Monarchs. The Honor de Sedano was
maintained until the suppression of the feudal system in 1812.
he flag and arms of Terradillos de Sedano, approved on 11 December
2008 by the Village Council, are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 14
September 2009 by the Village Council, signed on 21 September 2009 by
the Mayor, and published on 7 October 2009 in the official gazette of
the Province of Burgos, No. 191, p. 11 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Quadrangular, in proportions 1:1. Horizontally divided by a thin white stripe, the upper part red and the lower part green. In the center is placed the municipal coat of arms of Terradillos de Sedano.
Coat of arms: Quadrangular and rounded-off in base. [Per pale,] 1. Gules a castle of Castile in chief a six-pointed star or. 2. Vert three bees or placed 2 and 1 surmounted by a bunch of daisies argent. Grafted in base, azure over argent. The shield surmounted with a Royal crown closed.
