The flag of Vega de San Mateo is in proportions 2:3, diagonally divided per bend orange over blue. The municipal coat of arms is placed in the centre of the flag.
According to José Manuel Erbez (Banderas y escudos de Canarias, 2007; website), the colours are said to have been adopted by the local wrestling club in the 1970s.
The flag divided per bend sinister, shown by J.M. Erbez, is probably
erroneous.

The coat of arms of Vega de San Mateo is prescribed by a Decree adopted on 21 August 1956 by the Spanish Government and published on 21 September 1956 in the Spanish official gazette.
The coat of arms is described as follows:
Coat of arms: Per pale, 1. Sable a cherubim argent a bordure azure charged with eight pairs of swords or crossed per saltire, 2a. Vert a castle or, 2b. Argent the Cross of Saucillo proper cantonned by four fire arrows gules. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown open. Beneath the shield a scrol argent inscribed with the writing "TINAMAR" in letter gules.
The cherubim is a symbol of St. Matthew the Evangelist, the municipality's patron saint and namesake. The bordure is inspired by the arms of Gran Canaria. The tower represents Castile. The cross symbolizes Mt. Saucillo while the arrows symbolize the defeat of Dutch pirates in the area of Las Vegas. Tinamar was the original name of the settlement.
