Presentation of Fuente Vaqueros

The municipality of Fuente Vaqueros (4,211 inhabitants in 2007; 1,600 ha; municipal website) is located 20 km west of Granada.
Fuente Vaqueros is the birth place of the poet and playwright Federico García Lorca (1898-1936), and is, accordingly, the self-styled "cradle of universal poetry". The poet wrote about Fuente Vaqueros: "In this village I had my first dream of distance. In this town I will be earth and flowers". Lorca's birth house has been transformed into a museum and his birthday is celebrated in the village every 5 June. Lorca is also celebrated every year by two theater festivals (International Festival of Universitary Theater, May; Autumn People's Theater Festival, October).
